How to Use the Thomas Select Tube Holder

Indications for Use:

The Child Laerdal Thomas ET Tube Holder is specifically designed to securely hold both single and double-lumen airway tubes, such as Endotracheal Tubes (ETs), Laryngeal Mask Airways (LMAs), and other Supraglottic Airway devices (SGAs), post-insertion into the trachea or oesophagus. It is intended for use on children under eight years old requiring short-term airway-tube device management for less than 24 hours. Below are step-by-step instructions and crucial information about its application:

Setup Instructions (use linked user manual to refer to figures)

  1. Secure the Product: Secure the product as indicated in the user manual (Refer to Fig. 1 - 3).
  2. Position the Head Strap: Ensure the head strap is correctly positioned to prevent it from sliding (Refer to Fig. A).
  3. Release the Tube Clamp: Do so as depicted in the user manual (Refer to Fig. B).
  4. Adjust Hook Tab if Necessary: Position the removable hook tab on the strap to accommodate smaller neck sizes, if necessary (Refer to Fig. C).

Warnings

  • This device should only be used by trained personnel and only applied to patients after the insertion of an advanced airway device.
  • The holder is designed for single patient use; re-use can lead to increased risk of cross-contamination and/or device malfunction, for which Laerdal will not be responsible.
  • Apply adequate pressure to secure the tube; overtightening may restrict airflow.
  • The holder is not suitable for children of eight years and older.
  • It’s pivotal to inspect the product for any damages or malfunctions before usage.
  • Continuous patient monitoring is essential while the holder is in operation.

Cautions

  • Attach the device to the patient only after inserting an advanced airway device.
  • If the device has been used during training, do not use it on a patient.
  • Do not disinfect or sterilise the product.
  • Limit use to short terms; remove after 24 hours.
