What is the Medium Concentration Oxygen Mask used for?

The mask allows patients to breathe in oxygen from the attached tubing, as well as room air through side ports, ensuring a balanced oxygen intake. Commonly used in cases like pneumonia, exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or during minor surgeries, this mask is a vital tool in enhancing patient comfort and ensuring effective oxygen delivery in non-critical care scenarios.
How to use the Medium Concentration Oxygen Mask
Attach Tubing: Connect one end of the oxygen tubing to the spigot on the mask. Attach the other end to the oxygen flow meter.
- Set Flow Meter: Adjust the flow meter to deliver the prescribed oxygen concentration. It's important to ensure that the flow is at least five litres per minute. This is crucial to wash out carbon dioxide from the mask and prevent re-breathing.
- Fit the Mask: Place the mask over the patient's nose and mouth. Adjust the elastic strap to achieve a secure and comfortable fit. The strap can be placed over the ears or under them, depending on the patient's comfort and to avoid pressure sores.
