Initial Response: Immediately act to halt the burning process. This could involve moving the individual away from the source of the burn, dousing flames with a fire extinguisher, or smothering flames with a blanket, prioritising your own safety.
Prepare the Area: Carefully remove any clothing or jewellery near the burn area, ensuring not to disturb any material that may be stuck to the burn.
Applying Burnshield Dressing:
- Open: Carefully open the sterile foil package containing the Small Surface Burn Dressing.
- Remove: Gently extract the Foam Dressing from the package.
- Apply: Place the Foam Dressing over the small burn area, ensuring it completely covers it for effective treatment.
- Secure: Maintain the dressing in position using a non-adherent bandage or a suitable material for securing it in place.
Rehydration (if needed): If the dressing dries out, reapply Burnshield Hydrogel to provide additional moisture and continue the cooling and soothing process.
- Flush affected area with water for 15-20 minutes to neutralise acid/alkaline.
- Additional flushing of area if the eyes are involved ( extra 3-5 minutes)
- Apply Burnshield dressing to the affected area and treat as you would for normal heat burns.
- See medical attention.
- For Hydroflouric acid burns – Calcium gluconate neutralizes the burn and then you would use the above protocol.
- Switch off the power source and remove patient from the source
- Look for both entry and exit points of the arc/flash
- Treat as you would for heat burns
