How to Use the SAM® ChitoSAM™ 100 Haemostatic Dressing

  1. Open the packaging: The ChitoSAM™ 100 dressing is packed in a “tear anywhere” wrapper for fast access in emergencies. Tear open from any edge to remove the sterile dressing.
  2. Apply to the wound: Place the 10cm x 10cm dressing directly onto the bleeding area. For heavier bleeding, use alongside a pressure bandage or tourniquet if required.
  3. Apply firm pressure: Maintain steady pressure on the wound for around 3 minutes to help control the bleeding. Continue to apply pressure until bleeding has stopped.
  4. Secure the dressing: Once bleeding is under control, secure the dressing with a suitable cover dressing or bandage to keep it in place and maintain pressure.
  5. Removal: The dressing can be removed after 24 hours. Use sterile saline or clean water to rinse away any remaining material when taking it off.

  • Do not use near or over the eyes.
