When to Seek Medical Assistance

  • Size and Depth of the Burn: Seek immediate medical care for burns larger than the size of the affected person's hand, or for any deep burns that cause white or charred skin.
  • Location of the Burn: Burns on sensitive or critical areas such as the face, neck, hands, feet, any joints, or genitals require immediate medical evaluation.
  • Type of Burn: All chemical and electrical burns warrant an urgent visit to the A&E.
  • Accompanying Injuries: If there are additional injuries that need treatment, it's important to visit the A&E.
  • Signs of Shock: Symptoms like cold, clammy skin, sweating, rapid, shallow breathing, and feelings of weakness or dizziness indicate a need for emergency care.
  • Age and Health Factors: Children under the age of 10, individuals with chronic health conditions (like heart, lung, or liver disease, or diabetes), or those with weakened immune systems (due to conditions like HIV/AIDS or chemotherapy for cancer) should receive medical attention for burns.
  • Inhalation of Smoke or Fumes: If someone has inhaled smoke or fumes, especially showing symptoms like coughing, a sore throat, difficulty breathing, singed nasal hair, or facial burns, they should go to the hospital.
  • Delayed Symptoms: Be aware of delayed symptoms post-burn and seek medical attention if they arise.
  • Intentional Injury: If the injury was intentional or if there is suspicion of intentional harm to someone else, it's imperative to visit A&E.

About Burnshield Dressings

Burnshield® dressings, renowned for their effectiveness in emergency burn treatment, quickly gained the endorsement and acceptance of the medical profession following trials in hospitals and emergency medical services. Internationally recognised through independent laboratory tests and research, Burnshield® is integral to key hospital and EMS protocols. Its widespread adoption spans various markets including consumer, industrial, military, police/traffic services, correctional services, first aid kit manufacturers, and hospital & EMS/fire departments. The range has expanded to include training and educational items, complementing the existing product line. Burnshield products undergo sterilisation by gamma irradiation and have received accreditations and approvals from ISO, TGA, CE, and the FDA. These are single-use products, ensuring maximum sterility and efficacy with each application.

The dressings are infused with a sterile, water-based gel free from toxins, irritants, fats, or greases. They contain moisturising properties and soothing tea-tree oil that cool the skin, thereby lessening trauma and tissue damage. Suitable for treating 1st, 2nd, or 3rd-degree burns, including facial burns and scalds, they should be applied directly to the wound and covered with a protective bandage.
