Our dressing retention tape is designed with simplicity in mind, making dressing wounds effortless, and allowing you to get on with your next procedure quickly, knowing your patient has been well cared for.

Why choose Sterofix Dressing Retention Tape?

  • The backing paper features gridlines to help with accurate measuring and cutting.
  • Conforms readily to all areas of the body with good adhesion for long-term sticking.
  • Comes in a roll so that sections can be cut to the required size to keep dressings neat.
  • Soft and pliable, ideal for adhering to any part of the body, even in difficult to reach areas and joints.
  • Also available in 2.5cm and 5cm.
  • Permeable to air and water vapour to help maintain a good healing environment around the wound area.
  • Porous to help keep air flowing to the skin around the wound and reduce the chance of skin maceration.
  • Minimal trauma for the patient upon removal means less pain and discomfort when removing the tape.

Sterofix is our more cost-effective alternative to Hypafix Dressing Retention Tape and can be used in all the same situations.

What is dressing retention tape used for?

Wounds

The primary use for dressing retention tape is to hold dressings in place. While there are some adhesive dressings that come with an adhesive around them to be easily attached to the skin, others are not adhesive. This is usually the case when the dressing must cover a particularly large area or the dressing must be placed in a hard to access area, for example, around a finger, or under the knee.

Non-adhesive dressings primarily provide padding and absorption so it’s important to make sure that a dressing won’t slip during movement and expose an open wound. This is why dressing tape is used to seal off the edges of the dressing and attach it to the skin.

Medical Devices

Dressing retention tape comes in handy when attaching medical devices like catheters, drainage lines, feeding tubes, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitoring systems to an individual. The tape will keep the device fixed in place despite body movements and is not painful to remove when something needs to be changed.

Sports Tape

Dressing retention tape is also used underneath sports tape such as zinc oxide tape. Using a piece of dressing retention tape as the primary layer creates a protective barrier over the skin so that sports tape isn’t painful to remove.

Most good dressing retention tapes, like ours, are hypoallergenic whilst not all sports tapes are. So using it as an underlayer can protect the skin from irritation. Dressing retention tape also provides a good surface for better sports tape adhesion.
