What is sodium chloride?

Sodium chloride 0.9% is a sterile, colourless solution for infusion. It is used to treat sodium depletion, dehydration and as a solvent and carrier for other compatible drugs for parenteral administration of medicines.

It is used to:

• Absorb and transport nutrients
• Maintain blood pressure
• Maintain the right balance of fluid
• Transmit nerve signals

Sodium chloride injections are usually given into a vein as directed by your doctor to replace lost body fluids and salts. It may be provided in the hospital, in a clinic or at home.
