It is used as a reliever inhaler for symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness.

It may also be suitable for those who have been advised to use a reliever inhaler before exercise or before exposure to known triggers such as pollen, dust, or pet hair. This inhaler is intended for use as needed and should be used in line with the guidance provided by a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

How to Use the Salamol CFC-Free Inhaler

Always use Salamol exactly as directed by your doctor, pharmacist or the patient information leaflet.

Before first use, or if the inhaler has not been used for 5 days or more, remove the cap, check the mouthpiece is clean, and release 2 test sprays into the air. Sit or stand upright and hold the inhaler upright.

To take a dose:

  1. Remove the cap and check the mouthpiece is clean.
  2. Shake the inhaler well.
  3. Breathe out gently as far as is comfortable.
  4. Place the mouthpiece between your lips and seal your lips around it.
  5. Start to breathe in slowly and deeply, then press the canister once to release 1 puff.
  6. Continue breathing in steadily and deeply.
  7. Remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for up to 10 seconds, or for as long as is comfortable.
  8. Breathe out slowly.

If you need a second puff, wait about 1 minute and repeat the steps above. Replace the cap after use.

Clean the inhaler once a week to help prevent blockage.

Usual dosing guidance:

  • Adults and children aged 12 years and over: 1 puff (100 micrograms) when needed. This may be increased to 2 puffs if required.
  • Children aged 4 to 11 years: 1 puff when needed. This may be increased to 2 puffs if required.
  • Before exercise or unavoidable allergen exposure: 2 puffs may be taken beforehand, or as advised by a healthcare professional.

Do not use more often than advised. If you find you need the inhaler frequently or your symptoms are getting worse, seek medical advice.
