What is the PhysioWrap Used For?

PhysioWrap SPORT is specifically designed to facilitate the rapid and effective treatment of soft tissue injuries, including damage to muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joint capsules. This product is an essential tool for both professional sports physiotherapists and first aiders, providing a practical solution for applying cold or hot therapy.

The product's innovative design features a lightweight, reusable dispenser and a film with built-in elasticity that allows for fast application directly to the injured area without any need for preparation or unwrapping. PhysioWrap SPORT securely holds ice packs, gel packs, and other therapeutic elements in place, ensuring they remain fixed to precisely where treatment is needed.

It is particularly useful for treating sports-related injuries quickly. By applying necessary compression and thermal therapy, it helps to reduce swelling and alleviate pain. This makes it a valuable addition to any sports medicine kit, enhancing the ability to manage acute injuries on the spot.

How to Use PhysioWrap

Directions for Use:

  1. Initial Wrapping: Start by pulling off a small section of PhysioWrap SPORT. During the initial wrap, hold the film in place as it will only adhere to itself.
  2. Preparation for Ice: Before placing the ice pack, loosely wrap the injured area with PhysioWrap to cover it sufficiently and protect against ice burn.
  3. Securing the Ice Pack: Place the ice pack on the injured area. Continue wrapping, using your thumb to hold the central core and stretch the wrap to your desired level of compression.
  4. Compression Adjustment: Avoid wrapping at full stretch to allow for swelling, and ensure each layer overlaps the previous one.
  5. Finalising Wrap: The film will tighten after application; account for this when adjusting the tension. Wrap until the ice pack is securely held in place.
  6. Removing the Wrap: The film can be easily torn when not stretched—simply angle it to 45 degrees from the direction of the wind and pull to break. Smooth down the loose end to seal. Unravel the film to remove it when treatment is complete.
  7. Replacing the Roll: To replace an empty roll, squeeze the split end of the dispenser and push the empty core off with the other thumb. Slide on a new roll with the core’s protruding end facing the handle.

Precautions:

  • Skin Contact: Do not use PhysioWrap SPORT directly on broken skin or open wounds. Place a sterile layer between the wound and the film.
  • Severe Injuries: Only use after excluding severe injuries. Refer immediately to medical professionals if severe injury is suspected.
  • Medicinal Supervision: Use under medical supervision if combined with medicinal products, following manufacturer’s instructions.

Compression Guidelines:

  • Positioning: Do not apply compression while lying down or with the limb elevated. Start wrapping from the farthest point from the torso and move towards the centre.
  • Compression Level: Ensure even pressure, and for effective compression, cover at least 15cm below and above the injured area. Avoid over-compression as it may restrict blood circulation and cause tissue damage. Regularly check for signs of restricted blood flow.

Cold Therapy Guidelines:

  • Duration: Apply ice for 20-30 minutes every two hours. Avoid exceeding 30 minutes in one go.
  • Sensitive Areas: For areas like knees and elbows, limit cold application to 10 minutes or use insulating material between the ice pack and skin.
  • Special Conditions: Avoid cold therapy for individuals with poor circulation, peripheral vascular disease, or diabetes, and do not use on sensitive skin.
  • Post-Therapy: Refrain from immediate sports activity after ice application to prevent injury.

When to Seek Medical Assistance

  • Persistent Pain: If the pain does not improve or worsens despite treatment.
  • Severe Swelling: Significant or increasing swelling around the injured area.
  • Limited Mobility: If you experience decreased range of motion or inability to use the affected limb.
  • Numbness or Tingling: Sensations of numbness or tingling that persist or worsen.
  • Discolouration: Unusual bruising or skin discolouration that develops or spreads.
  • Signs of Infection: Redness, warmth, fever, or discharge from an injured area, especially if an open wound is present.
  • Previous Medical Conditions: Individuals with pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or those who have compromised immune systems should seek immediate advice to ensure safe use of cold therapy.
  • No Improvement: If the condition does not improve with initial treatment after 48 hours.
