GlucaGen HypoKit does not need to be kept in a refrigerator at all times and may be stored below 25°C for up to 18 months within its shelf life, making it easier to keep close at hand. After use, medical advice should be sought to identify the cause of the episode and discuss ongoing management.

How to Use GlucaGen HypoKit 1mg Injection

Use GlucaGen HypoKit exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. This kit is for emergency use in children and adults with diabetes who use insulin and are unable to take sugar by mouth because of severe low blood sugar.

Prepare the injection

  • Remove the plastic cap from the vial and take the needle cover off the syringe.
  • Insert the needle through the rubber stopper of the vial and inject all of the liquid from the syringe into the vial.
  • Keeping the needle in place, gently shake the vial until the powder has fully dissolved and the solution looks clear.
  • With the plunger fully down, turn the vial upside down and slowly draw the solution back into the syringe.
  • Tap the syringe gently to remove any air bubbles, then push the plunger slightly until the correct dose is shown.

Give the injection

  • Inject under the skin or into a muscle, such as the outer thigh.
  • After the injection, place the person on their side to help reduce the risk of choking.

Recommended dose

  • Adults and children over 25kg: 1mg (1ml) – use the full syringe
  • Children under 25kg: 0.5mg (0.5ml) – use half the syringe

After the person responds

As soon as they are awake and able to swallow, give a sugary drink or snack, followed by a meal or snack as soon as possible. This helps restore blood sugar levels and reduce the chance of another episode.

  • Use immediately after mixing. Do not store any mixed solution for later use.
  • Do not use if the solution looks thick, gel-like, cloudy, or if the powder has not dissolved properly.
