How To Apply A Prometheus Pelvic Splint
The Prometheus Pelvic Splint has been designed for pre-hospital use, and is light and easily adjusted by one person. The soft material, with no internal stitching, minimises pressure points and reduces the risk of pressure necrosis.
Instructions:
- Take neoprene band, fold in half with ‘fuzzy yellow’ surface outside. Place folded band against patient, with the centre of the band in line with the greater trochanter.
- Fold top half of the band down to lie beside the patient’s leg.
- Perform a controlled roll to pass the band underneath the patient to the midline.
- Roll the other way to retrieve the folded band.
- Ensure that the centre of the band is still aligned with the greater trochanters.
- Wrap one end of the neoprene band around the patient.
- Attach the blue triangular anchor to the outer surface of the neoprene band.
- Ensure that the centre of the edge of the triangle is directly over the greater trochanter.
- Cut excess neoprene at the level indicated on the triangular anchor. This will allow greater access to the inguinal region.
- Repeat steps 6-9 on the other side.
- Ensure buckle is central and apply tension to the two blue tapes until sufficient force has been applied.
- Secure blue tapes to the neoprene band to maintain desired tension.
- Record time of splint application.
