How to Use the Zoll CPR Uni-Padz Universal Electrodes

Using the ZOLL CPR Uni-padz™ Universal Electrodes is a straightforward process designed to support quick and effective action during an emergency. Here's how to use them with the ZOLL AED 3:

1. Prepare the AED: Power on the ZOLL AED 3 and ensure it's in ready mode.

2. Place the Electrodes: Open the packaging of the CPR Uni-padz™. If the patient is an adult, proceed to place the electrodes as indicated by the graphic images. For paediatric patients (8 years or younger, under 25kg), reposition the pads as shown on the diagrams and activate Child Mode on the AED.

3. Initiate Analysis: Once the pads are in place, the ZOLL AED 3 will begin analysing the heart rhythm. Ensure nobody is touching the patient during this analysis.

4. Follow AED Prompts: The AED will provide voice, text, and visual prompts. If a shock is necessary, ensure everyone is clear of the patient and press the shock button when indicated.

5. Perform CPR: After a shock, or if no shock is advised, begin CPR. The built-in CPR landmark and Real CPR Help® technology will guide hand placement and provide real-time feedback on the rate and depth of chest compressions. The AED’s full-colour LCD will display the depth of compressions in real time.

6. Adjust Compressions: Respond to the AED's feedback. If the device indicates that compressions are too shallow, press harder. If the compressions are good, continue as directed.

7. Continue as Directed: Keep following the AED’s prompts until professional medical help arrives or the patient recovers.

Remember, the CPR Uni-padz™ are pre-connected for faster deployment, and their design includes simple pull tabs for quick access and use. The electrodes are suitable for a wide range of patients, with adjustable features to accommodate adults and larger individuals. Always refer to the official ZOLL AED 3 operating guide for comprehensive instructions and follow your trained CPR/AED protocol.

When to Seek Medical Assistance

Medical advice should be sought immediately if an individual exhibits signs of cardiac arrest, such as sudden collapse, unresponsiveness, or abnormal breathing. The ZOLL CPR Uni-padz™, in conjunction with the ZOLL AED 3, is designed for such critical situations. However, their use does not replace the need for professional medical assistance.

Always call emergency services first before beginning resuscitation efforts with the AED. After the AED is in use, continue to follow the real-time instructions provided by the ZOLL AED 3 until medical professionals arrive. It is crucial to understand that while the CPR Uni-padz™ are a significant aid in delivering effective CPR, they are part of an interim life-saving measure until the patient can receive comprehensive care from healthcare professionals.

If you are uncertain about the appropriateness of using the AED and the CPR Uni-padz™, or if the situation of the patient changes, seek medical advice or assistance immediately. Always ensure that the patient is continuously monitored and supported until emergency services take over.
