These sterile wound closure strips act as a non-surgical suture and are used to close and treat open wounds without needing stitches. Their ‘butterfly’ stitch design holds broken skin together, preventing wounds from reopening and minimising the risk of infection. The nylon strengthening fibres run the length of each suture, improving their strength, and preventing them from snapping under the stress of normal body movements.

How to Use the Wound Closure Strips

Application

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap or sanitiser. Wear disposable gloves if available.
  2. Wash out the wound to get rid of dirt and bacteria using cool, clean water or saline solution.
  3. Gently pat the area until it is completely dry with a clean gauze swab, tissue, or cloth.
  4. Choose the correct thickness of wound closure strip required for the depth and severity of the wound. You can also cut it to a small, better-fitting length if required.
  5. Using your fingers, gently push the two sides of the wound together as far as you comfortably can. Make sure to warn the casualty that this may hurt.
  6. Gently place one half of a clean, new wound closure strip over the two sides of the wound so that it holds the wound together.
  7. Start by adhering the strip to one side of the wound, then pull the other half over it to help close the wound. Adhere the other half of the strip to the other side of the wound. Make sure to apply the strip horizontally, don’t apply it in the same direction as the wound.
  8. Repeat these steps for as many wound skin closures as you need to securely and fully close the wound. Make sure that the strips are approximately 3mm apart. Secure an adhesive bandage or medical tape along the ends of the closure strips to hold them in place, or cover the area with a waterproof adhesive dressing for optimal protection.

Removal

  1. Use a medical adhesive remover or make up a solution of clean, soapy water to soak the adhesive of the wound closure strips attached to the wound area. This will loosen the adhesive’s grip on the skin.
  2. Gently pull the strip off, ideally in the direction of hair growth. Don’t pull too hard if it’s not lifting off easily; this could cause skin stripping or pull the wound open again.

When to seek medical assistance

Whilst Sterostrip Wound Skin Closures are highly effective at facilitating the healing process, you should seek medical assistance in the following situations:

  • If the wound is excessively deep or wide
  • If you're unsure about the severity of the injury
  • The wound is not healing or becomes more painful after a few days
  • You notice redness, swelling, or pus, which might indicate an infection
  • You have not been fully vaccinated against tetanus
  • The wound is caused by an animal bite

Frequently Asked Questions

Wound closures are flexible strips reinforced with nylon fibres coated with a strong, long-lasting medical-grade adhesive that attaches to the skin around a wound site. These artificial sutures can be cut to size and applied over a wound to hold it together when a cut is too deep to close up on its own.

The answer to this will vary depending on the wound size, the number of strips used, and if the wound area and strips have become wet. In most cases, wound closure strips can remain in place between 3-10 days, especially if covered and protected by an additional waterproof dressing.

This depends on the wound site, how serious it is, and its ability to heal naturally. Regularly monitor the wound, checking to see if the skin is starting to heal back together, and if the strips start to fall off naturally without re-opening the wound, it is safe to let them come off naturally.

Sterostrip Wound Skin Closures are renowned for being the most robust and reliable wound closures available. With their 3mm x 75mm size, they are perfectly suited for treating a range of wounds including knife cuts, deep wounds, and minor cuts or lacerations.

These closures are designed as non-surgical sutures, effectively closing wounds without the need for stitches. Their ‘butterfly’ stitch design securely holds broken skin together, minimizing the risk of infection and preventing wounds from reopening.

Sterostrip Wound Skin Closures are sold in a box containing 10 pouches, with each pouch holding 5 sutures. This makes them an ideal choice for both medical environments and emergency first aid situations, be it at work or at home.

Absolutely. These closures are commonly used by professional chefs, butchers, gardeners, and labourers, proving their versatility and efficacy in various workplace scenarios.

Yes, Sterostrip Wound Skin Closures are also available in a 6mm size, catering to a broader range of application needs.

These closures are designed to reduce bleeding, minimize the need for stitches, and subsequently reduce healing time and scarring. Their medical-grade adhesive ensures long-lasting adhesion, promoting better healing and reducing infection risks.

If the edges of the strip begin to lift, you can carefully trim the loose edges with scissors. However, do not pull at the strips as this could reopen the wound.

Typically, the wound closure strips should remain in place between 3-10 days, depending on the wound's size and whether the area has gotten wet. Regular monitoring of the wound is recommended to assess its healing progress.

The Versatility of Celox Granules in Wound Care

Military-icon-80px

Tailored for High-Risk Scenarios

Celox Haemostatic Granules are primarily designed for use in high-risk, life-threatening situations where rapid bleeding control is crucial. They have demonstrated effectiveness in managing severe bleeding, be it from a traumatic injury or in a surgical setting. This makes them an invaluable addition to first-aid kits for environments such as hospitals, emergency medical services, military combat zones, and other high-risk scenarios.

Irregular-Wound-Icon-80px-transparent-V2

Using Celox for Complex and Irregular Wounds

Traditional methods of stopping bleeding can be ineffective on irregularly shaped or puncture wounds. Celox Haemostatic Granules, on the other hand, excel in such scenarios.

Removing Celox Post-Application: An Easy Process

The convenience of Celox doesn't stop at the application. Once the bleeding has been controlled, and professional medical attention is available, the granules can be easily removed. The granules are designed to form a gel-like clot that adheres to the wound surface. This clot can be gently rinsed or wiped away with sterile water or saline solution, leaving no residue and minimising any discomfort during the cleaning process.
