2% Chlorhexidine and 70% alcohol antiseptic wipes provide a broad kill spectrum with a short contact time. This makes them excellent infection control disposables for virucidal (enveloped viruses), bactericidal, fungicidal, and yeasticidal sterilising. They are ideal for use with non-invasive equipment such as intravenous ports and hubs, urinary catheters, and needle-free devices.
The individual ready-to-use packets are designed to facilitate the aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT), helping you to eliminate unnecessary contact with a patient's body and equipment.
Each wipe is made from non-linting material and leaves no residue, drying quickly and leaving a completely sanitised surface. They are recommended for use on hard non-porous surfaces and non-invasive medical devices.
Impregnated with a solution of 2% (w/w) Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) and 70% (v/v) Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), the wipes are more effective and faster-acting than 70% alcohol and 10% povidone-iodine alternatives.
CHG 2% Alcohol Wipes are explicitly used in the disinfection of devices used for intravenous therapy and vascular access. Alcoholic 2 chlorhexidine wipes also help to reduce the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infections significantly.
Using Chlorhexidine with alcohol to disinfect devices offers a border spectrum of efficacy than just alcohol. Evidence shows that CHG 2% Alcohol is a more effective sanitiser for central line catheters than alcohol alone.
For example, one study published in the National Library of Medicine compared the use of alcohol with Chlorhexidine as a sanitiser with just alcohol-based sanitiser in catheters used on dialysis patients. The study found that central line-associated bloodstream infections were significantly lower when alcohol with Chlorhexidine was used.
