Managing Burn Injuries
Burns are one of the most serious types of injuries that can occur within the workplace. The effects that a burn has on a patient can depend on a number of factors including the age and weight of the casualty, their medical history, location of the injury and the source of the heat itself.
All Burn Injuries Are Time Critical
It is essential that the heat is arrested quickly as skin tissue can continue to burn for some time after the incident and the burn site will grow larger and deeper. For example: an untreated partial thickness burn can rapidly progress to a full thickness burn (requiring surgery) if it is left untreated.
